until的用法(I)
until的后面可以接具体的时间,也可以接一个时间状语从句.它既可以用于肯定句中,又可以用于否定句中,但用法不同.
一、用于肯定句中,意思是“到、、、为止”,表示动作一直持续到表示的时间为止.
主句的动词必须是延续性动词.
eg:I will wait here until half past four.
He worked in the office until the cleaner came in.
二、后面的从句中不能用将来时,如果要表示将来的动作或状态,则用一般现在时代替.
eg:He will stay here until his mother comes back.
They will study at the school until their parents come to take them home.

三、until用于否定句中,意思是“直到、、、才”,表示动作从until表示的时间才开始,主句动词延续性、非延续性均可.
eg:I didn’t go to bed until 12 last night.
I won’t come back until my mother asks me.
He doesn’t do his homework until his father comes back every day.
1.他一直等到妈妈回来才睡觉.
He didn’t go to bed until his mother came back.
2.昨天,他们直到做完卫生才回家.
They didn’t go home until they finished the cleaning.
3.直到5点钟我才能去打篮球.
I can’t go to play basketball until five o’clock.
4.那个孩子直到5岁才会说话.
The child couldn’t speak until he was five years old.
5.直到明天他看完这本书,他才能去还.
He can’t return the book until he finishes reading tomorrow
1. 如果主句中的谓语动词是短暂性动词，应采用“... not ... until ...”结构，意为直到...才……”。可以和never， nobody， nothing， few， little， seldom， hardly等含否定意义的词连用。例如：
You can't leave until you see the doctor. 看过医生之后，你才能走。

1. 如果主句中的谓语动词是短暂性动词，应采用“... not ... until ...”结构，意为直到...才……”。可以和never， nobody， nothing， few， little， seldom， hardly等含否定意义的词连用。例如：
You can't leave until you see the doctor. 看过医生之后，你才能走。
2. 如果主句中的谓语动词是延续性动词，谓语动词有肯定和否定用法。
1） 如果谓语动词为肯定式，则until译为“到……时候为止”。例如：
I watched TV until she came back. 我看电视一直看到她回来。
2） 如果谓语动词为否定式，则until应译为“到……时候才”，即“在……以前不”。如：
I did not watch TV until she came back. （= I began to watch TV when/after she came back.） 直到她回来我才开始看电视。
