Plugging One’s Ears While Stealing a Bell (A Story from Ancient China)
A thief was walking by an abandoned house when he came upon a wonderful large bronze bell, so he decided to steal it. But first he had to break it in pieces because it was too heavy. This was going to be too noisy a job, and he would get caught, so he decided to use earplugs, thinking that if he could not hear the noise, no one else could either.
But of course he was caught nevertheless.
The moral of the story is that those who seek to deceive others will only deceive themselves in the end.
